Drop-down

Drop-down is a multiple-choice question type where answer options are presented in a collapsible drop-down menu.

Test-takers can select one option from a list that appears when the drop-down is clicked.

This question type is ideal when you have many answer options and want to save space. Using a drop-down keeps the page looking tidy, while the expandable format makes it easier for test-takers to scan and compare a large number of choices.

Check box

Check box is a multiple-choice question type that allows learners to select more than one answer from a list of options. Each answer option is displayed next to a square check box.

Because multiple selections are allowed, test-takers can choose any number of responses from the list. If you want respondents to choose a single answer, use our multiple choice question type instead.

Check box questions can reduce guesswork and give you a deeper understanding of a learner's knowledge.

Picture choice

Picture choice is a multiple-choice question type in which answer options appear as images, icons, or graphics.

Test-takers select one correct option from a set of images. Using pictures makes quizzes more interactive and engaging by appealing to visual learners and reducing reliance on text alone.

You can choose to display images in a range of sizes, and optionally add text labels for extra context.

Fill-in-the-blanks

A fill-in-the-blanks question typically consists of a paragraph, statement, or sentence featuring a blank space(s).

Test-takers need to input their correct answer into the spaces(s) using words, phrases, or numbers. The response can be automatically marked based on the answers provided by the quiz maker.

Fill-in-the-blanks usually requires respondents to think about the correct plausible answer instead of guessing from a choice of options.

This question type is excellent for various quizzes such as grammar skills, number sequence tests, spelling tests, and missing data in a table.

Matching

A matching question consists of two columns where test-takers pair items in the first column with a correct option in the second column.

The first column items are called premises and can consist of words, numbers, phrases, images, audio, or videos. The second column contains the choice of responses displayed in a drop-down format. The responses can include distractors that can make the question more challenging for students.

Matching questions are great for testing reading skills, recognition of relationships, and making associations.

Matching text

Matching Text is a short-answer question type that requires students to enter their response into a single text box.

Student responses are automatically scored by comparing them against one or more acceptable answers provided by the quiz creator.

Unlike fill-in-the-blank questions, Matching Text offers only one response field. However, the available space supports longer answers, including phrases, short sentences, or even brief paragraphs.

Matching Text is ideal for assessing sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and error correction skills.

Free text

Free text (or free format) questions are great when you want richer, more detailed responses.

Quiz takers need to type a response in their own words, such as an essay, feedback, writing skills assessment, or problem-solving explanation.

As answers are open-ended, the responses will need to be manually checked and scored by Admins or Trainers.

File upload

A file upload question allows test-takers to submit their responses by uploading a file, such as an image, video, PowerPoint presentation, Word document, or Excel file.

This open-ended question type gives respondents the flexibility to express their thoughts, ideas, and understanding using a variety of formats, rather than being limited to text-based answers.

File upload questions can be used for many purposes, including project submissions, essays, sharing calculations or workings, responding to a provided document, or submitting proof or supporting evidence.

Because responses may vary widely in format and content, these questions require manual scoring by an Admin or Trainer.

Data collection

You can also collect extra information about the participant by adding a custom registration page to the start of your quiz.

The registration page enables you to collect data such as name, ID number, email address, staff id, date, or state.

Registration pages are not classed as a standard FlexiQuiz question type and cannot be scored.

A registration page is great for lead capture, validating participant information, and collecting data for certificates.
