Tracking response times

FlexiQuiz lets you quickly check how long a respondent spends on each page and the whole quiz.

Viewing the response times helps you measure students' understanding, create fun competition or identify cheating.

Time taken per page

How it's measured

The timer starts counting when the learner opens the page and stops when they move to the next screen.

If the learner opens a new window or closes the browser, the timer continues counting until the learner returns to the page or the quiz is submitted.

If learners move between questions on different FlexiQuiz pages, the timer pauses and resumes if they return to the page.

How to view the time spent per page

To start, the account Administrator must configure the reports to include the response times per page.

1. From the top menu, press Settings and choose General from the left-hand menu.
2. Next to Admin responses report, tick the box Include page times.

The time spent on each page is included on all quizzes linked to your FlexiQuiz account.

Admins and Trainers with the relevant permissions can view the timings of these reports.

#1. Individual summary

To access this report:

1. Go to the Analyze screen.
2. Next to report type, select Individual Summary.
3. Find the relevant user and press select action
4. Choose view from the drop-down menu.

The timings are displayed at the top of each report page. You can also download the user responses with timings in PDF format.

#2. Extended report listing all users

1. From the Analyze screen, choose the report type, Individual Summary.
2. On the Analyze table, click on the 3 dots.
3. Choose Extended Export from the drop-down menu.

An Excel report will be downloaded that lists the user responses and the time taken for each page.

#3. Email results to yourself with a PDF of the results

You can email notifications to Admins and Trainers with a PDF of responses that shares the time per page.

1. From the Configure screen, select Notifications on the left-hand menu.
2. Tick the box Email results.
3. Now tick the box Include PDF of responses.
4. In the Email to list, enter your email address and then email for other Admins or Trainers.

How we measure time spent on the quiz

The FlexiQuiz system starts counting time spent on the whole quiz from when the learner opens the first question or text/media page.

If you have a welcome or sell page, the timer starts when the user leaves these pages and starts the quiz.

The timer stops when the quiz is submitted. The timer keeps running if the learner leaves the quiz without submitting it. In this case, you will need to submit the quiz so the timer can stop.

How to view time spent on the whole quiz

There are several ways for Admins or Trainers to view time spent on the whole quiz.

#1. Analyze dashboard

This is a great way to compare student results

1. Firstly, you will need to go to the Analyze screen for the quiz.
2. From the Analyze screen, select the Individual Summary report type.
3. Next, press the 3 dots on the top right of the table.
4. Choose Configure columns from the drop-down menu.
5. Tick the box Duration.

6. Press Save.

A column will appear on your Analyze table with the heading Duration. You can also download this data in an Excel spreadsheet for further analysis.

#2. PDF report

You can download from the Analyze screen or on email notifications.

1. From your Analyze dashboard, select the user.
2. Press select action.
3. Choose view from the drop-down menu.

The Duration is shown at the top of the quiz.

Frequently asked questions

Can I share the time spent on the whole quiz with students?

Yes, you can share the duration with students on their Results screen, PDF of responses and email notifications.
