Instructions: the following questions form a test of mathematical reasoning ability that is intended to be very challenging even for those who have a strong mathematical background, so you should not feel bad if you do not get a high score. Nevertheless, none of the questions in the test require mathematical knowledge beyond high school level to understand and solve. There are 17 questions in total, and you have 35 minutes to complete the test. Calculators are not allowed, but pen and paper for working is both allowed and recommended. Please give your answers using digits rather than words; e.g. write “7” instead of “seven” and “1/7” instead of “one seventh”. Do not bother with units – just the number is necessary. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so feel free to guess when unsure.
