On the next page, you can look at and try to answer a sample ELAS writing task. This example will help you understand the format of the writing test. In the real writing test, you will be given other topics.

You will have 60 minutes to write a text of at least 250 words. You will be given two topics, and you need to choose one to write about.

Your writing will mainly be assessed based on the following areas: 

  • Task response - how well you answer the question and write about the topic
  • Organisation - how clearly structure your ideas and connect them
  • Vocabulary - how effectively and accurately you use words and phrases to express your ideas
  • Grammar - how well you use different grammatical forms and structures

 

Using dictionaries, notes, phones, or any other electronic devices during the writing test is strictly NOT ALLOWED.
